For years we worked out in the garage. It wasn’t ideal. It was cold in the winter (yes, I know, it’s California, but at 6:00 am it’s actually cold here). That garage/gym was also JJ’s workshop so everything was constantly covered in layers of sawdust and had to be cleaned off before every workout.
Gearing up to dust down your equipment, while shivering in the cold before you even begin a workout is not motivational. More often than not a hot coffee won out and I promised myself I would workout tomorrow. Rinse. Repeat.
As the older boys have moved out, rooms have opened up in the house and we finally have the space to create a home gym inside.
Years ago, the year right before the commercial of the husband giving his wife a Peloton for Christmas went over like a porcupine at a balloon toss, JJ surprised me with a Peloton for Christmas. I was pretty shocked because I had never been a cyclist. But one of my besties loved hers and convinced him I would love it too. She was so right. I DO it. But, slippery slope men.
I love riding my bike, and I also love doing the other classes Peloton has to offer but find it difficult to do on the bike, its an older model and the screen doesn’t flip over, so we are putting a smart tv in the room so I can cast the classes to a larger screen.
My second most favorite thing in our home gym is the art. Is it even a home gym to anyone born in the 70s without a Rocky reference? I just ordered the artwork from Etsy and can’t wait to see it in person!
AND of course JJ had to make something for this room so instead of buying a stand for the weights, he made a shelving unit that holds the weights on top and all of our towels, shoes, yoga equipment, etc. on the bottom. I can’t wait to show you the finished piece!
Here’s a look at all of our selections! Stay tuned over the next month when we reveal the finished Home Gym. Follow along on Instagram. We will be showing the progress in stories.
